e v e r y o n e h a s a s e c r e t but can they keep it
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Juliart/background_black.jpg');,true][cs=2] O H N O T H E Y C A N 'T | [atrb=width,240]ever since entering University it felt as though death swarmed Donovan. first Dahlia had lost her husband and son. a little boy who was the closest thing he'd ever have to a nephew. it had broken his heart but not nearly as much as it had broke Dahlia. even though he knew what it felt like to loose someone, he didn't know what to say to his best friend. there were no words that could take that kind of pain away. no right words anyways. that didn't stop Donovan from talking an over amount, trying to find something that would make her smile or even laugh a little. it was like a mission of his. to bring back his best friend, even though he understood the pain she was in. loosing anyone was hard but loosing two people who you loved was even harder. he knew she blamed herself and that bothered him. he wanted so badly to take all her pain away but didn't have a clue how to go about doing so. when she would cry he would give her his shoulder and just hold her. even though he could burn water at the best of times he did his best to make sure she was fed. eating with her had improved his appetite for human food a little bit but it wasn't suppose to be about him. it was suppose to be about her. he wanted it to be about her. which made him feel even more like a jerk when each time he would hold her those bloody feelings would come back. she had just lost her bloody husband but apparently that wasn't enough for those pestering feelings. Dahlia had been his best friend since Hogwarts. there had been one point in his life that he had imagined more between them but never acted on it.
she was his best friend and he had already grown a horrible reputation. not to mention that Dahlia knew of how he felt about Nyla, so he was sure she wouldn't give him the time of day. besides, when he saw how happy she was when she met her husband he knew it wasn't meant to be him making her smile. he was meant to be her best friend and he was fine with that. it pissed him off that those feelings were picking a horrible time to rear their head again. he often wanted to scream at them, but knew that would look a little weird. nor did he really want to frighten his best friend. Orion's death wasn't the only one on Donovan's mind as of late though. sure he still missed the little man as much as ever but he had suffered another loss. this time it came in the form of a female, one whose relationship with him was a bit off. Katherine Carrow had been the first girl that Donovan had ever slept with. the one girl that he practically ran out of the room on the moment everything was done with. given that he was unable to control his urges and needed to eat something that wasn't her. merlin knew if he took a bite out of her it would rise some questions and he would have probably got expelled. try explaining that to a girl though? it had been quite an awkward conversation. Katherine was the only person that knew Donovan was a vampire because he had no other way of explaining what happened to himr. trust him, he had tried lying through his teeth but nothing seemed to work so he just broke down. in a way it had actually made them closer, she was probably one of the only friends he had that he could sleep with. telling her had lifted this huge weight off his shoulders so he was okay around her. it seemed though his secret went straight to the grave with her. loosing her wasn't easy on him, especially when he went to the funeral and saw her sister.
the twin had nearly taken the breath right out of him but he did what any gentlemen would do. he offered her his condolences then hugged her. merlin had that ever felt weird. being a vampire Donovan felt as though he should have been used to death but he wasn't. he didn't think anyone could ever really get used to death. it always hit him like a ton of bricks. even his mother's death had, regardless of the fact that he never really knew her. what made it all worse was that Donovan constantly felt like he was being watched. it was an eerie feeling really, not a comfortable one. which made him feel as though whoever may have been watching him wasn't anyone good. running his hand through his hair he looked out the window he was leaning against. it was a dreary day. the sun was hidden by dark clouds that seemed to promise to open up at any minute and allow a down pour of rain. it seemed to be fitting his mood rather nicely. normally he loved days like this but today he actually wished for sun. anything to cheer him up. sighing heavily he pushed away from the window ledge and walked back to his bed. he wanted to go and see Dahlia but he didn't want to do so in a bummed out mood. she needed happy people around her, so he'd have to do something that made him happy. after pulling some clothes on he walked into his kitchen and retrieved himself some blood. mentally counting the bags that remained, just to make sure that he didn't need to make a stop any time soon.
though he was a vampire, he hadn't taken a bite from an actual human being since he was two years old. drinking blood from someone just wasn't something he thought he could do. so the only time he drank human blood was when it came from a bag from a blood bank. yes, this meant he stole but it was either that or animal blood. he wasn't a killer, refused to be. Donovan's worse fear was winding up like his father so he did everything in his power to stay away from that aspect of his life. needing to kill to eat. he was sure that would only bring out the more horrible side of him. after all he did have his father's DNA, it had to be in him to be an asshole. he had no desire to find out though. rinsing out the cup as he finished his drink for the morning Donovan grabbed his wallet and keys then left his dorm. he was lucky enough to have his own room given his special circumstances. with his hands stuffed into his pockets he crossed the campus, heading out to find Dahlia. his eyes jerking up towards the sky every so often making sure they weren't quite opening up yet. stopping by the coffee cart, he grabbed Dahlia a drink then continued on his search for the blond. it wasn't long before he found her though. her scent reached him before he spotted her and the mere sight of her made him smile. jogging in her direction he held out the cup. "thought you may need this. i was going to head to your dorm..." his voice trailed off as he looked up at the front gate. "out doing some early shopping?" Donovan asked curiously, trying to figure out where she had been. he disliked leaving his best friend alone, it gave him an uneasy feeling. though he knew he couldn't be there for her twenty four seven, he some times wanted to try to be. "these clouds look like they are ready to down pour at any moment." he could smell the rain in the air. it was usually a favorite smell of his but he hardly recognized it standing next to her. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width:350px; background-color:#ECECEC;border-right:20px solid black;border-left:20px solid black;padding-bottom:5px;] i've never seen you so clearly dahlia rubbed the back of her head. she was wearing a purple slouchy hat, navy blue stripped long sleeve shirt and jeans. she was sitting at the front of the school at the gates. she had ran a little late to meet donovan vladislav. she wasn't like him though. donovan was always on time in the morning like he didn't sleep. she didn't know how the guy did it. he always looked like he had taken the whole morning to get ready but he didn't. he would be there before dahlia and she had just rolled out of bed. she never tried to figure out how he did it though. all she knew was that he was a boy of amazing talents. she had always thought very highly of him but it grew even more after the death of her husband. she hadn't expected anyone but her family to actually step up and support her but donovan had. he had always been close to her and the family though. he had been there for her wedding and then when orion was born. monumental days in dahlia's life, donovan had been there. she couldn't thank donovan enough for all that he had done for her. dahlia would have never guessed in hogwarts that she would have become friends with a slytherin. now they were still best friends. all those times that dahlia seemed ready to snap on him for trying to help her, he always remained calm. dahlia couldn't get mad at him when he was so calm. it bothered her how serene he seemed with everything. she knew he wasn't perfect though. with the girls that he had in his life, dahlia didn't understand how he couldn't just settle. their love lives had been completely different. dahlia was already with the man that she was going to marry in her fifth year while donovan was just getting started with girls. there were times when dahlia did wish that she could show donovan what he was missing out with a stable relationship. she had known how much he did like nyla though. if any girl were to rangle donovan in, it would be her. she was sure she'd be up for it but she wasn't going to do that. that was out of the question. donovan was her friend. they were only best friends. she knew how much he liked nyla and if he liked her, he wasn't going to confuse his mind even more. that was a stupid thought anyway. it wasn't as if donovan would ever like. half the time that donovan knew dahlia, she had already had eli. there was never a chance for the two to try anything but dahlia had been good as friends all those years. she had moments where she had thought that donovan and her could've been more but she had brushed those thoughts away. it was in the moment thoughts when eli and her weren't getting along. donovan had treated her very well but it didn't mean that if they were in a relationship that he would be the same. relationships alway showed a different side of a person. while dahlia could be sweet around all her friends, with eli she wasn't the same.
donovan was a very good looking boy...dahlia wasn't going to lie. he had been blessed with looks. shaggy brown locks and bright blue eyes. what a unique combination but one that dahlia loved. there wasn't any part of her that doubted that if she hadn't found eli that she and donovan could have been something. that was the past. this was the present. she wasn't thinking this at all. she didn't want a boyfriend and that boy would be the biggest rebound. dahlia hadn't tried anything with anyone actually. she was scared that anything she tried that eli was going to haunt her mind. even if it was true that eli would want dahlia to move on, she couldn't. not right now. she had made enough progress with eating full meals that she wasn't ready for such a big leap. dahlia's mind was always switching thoughts. when it came down to it, her stomach always had this sick feeling in it though. the thought that eli probably wasn't the one came up and it scared dahlia more than ever. how could she even come up with such a ridiculous assumptions? it was her stupid mind trying to make her move on. how could it get any better than eli? she was just being stupid. dahlia's thoughts stopped when she heard donovan's voice. a small smile grew on her face seeing him. "thanks." she took the cup from him and put an arm him giving him a hug. she breathed in his scent. she was so used to it. it was so natural and she had known of it since first year when she had ran into him. she put her arm down looking into his blue eyes. clear and beautiful like they always were. she often got lost in them like they were the ocean. dahlia shook her head. "i was just hiding from you...no i ran a little late. not everyone can wake up looking like you." she looked him in the eye remembering when he did stay over at the malfoy manor and seeing him in the morning. dahlia's curls would be all over the place while donovan would wake up from the guest bedroom like he had just been doing a photoshoot. it was unfair that dahlia was a mess and he wasn't. even when his hair was a little messy, it looked like he had done it up that way. dahlia's hair, well she would compare it to an afro."maybe we shouldn't be out here then," dahlia chuckled brushing her curls behind her shoulder. she quickly looked away as she noticed that she was staring. dahlia didn't know he did it. how he just drew her in. she wished she had the same effect on people but donovan was one of a kind. she could always tell that there was something different about him but she couldn't tell. dahlia never bothered to ask either.

e v e r y o n e h a s a s e c r e t but can they keep it [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Juliart/background_black.jpg');,true][cs=2] O H N O T H E Y C A N 'T | [atrb=width,240]though it seemed like Donovan had a lot of friends, the truth was that he had a lot of acquaintances. people he talked too but he never really allowed to get too close to him. afraid they would discover his secret and then he really wouldn't know what to do. in fact, he could count on one hand how many people he actually considered close friends. which obviously wasn't very many. naturally Dahlia and Nyla took the first two places, after that everyone else just sorta fell into place. there was the odd person other then those two that he trusted, but not in the same sense. this didn't mean that he told them about him being a vampire, merlin no. if he hadn't told Nyla or Dahlia then chances were no body was going to know. telling Katherine had been a mistake on his part. not one that he regretted but he still hadn't meant too. it had been the only explaination that he could offer the girl though. much to his surprise she had kept her word and didn't tell a soul. even if telling her did feel like a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. he actually felt like he could be his real self around her, and that had felt nice. not that he couldn't be himself around the other girls, he was just constantly making sure he didn't let his little secret slip. there wasn't a part of him that didn't want to tell them though, especially Dahlia. after everything they had been through together in the past year, she was one person he thought deserved to know. in the back of his mind though, there was constantly that nagging voice that it wasn't a good idea.
he felt bad enough for keeping a secret from his best friends. nevermind a secret that could have saved his best friends families lives. if he had been there, if he had known sooner, then he could have saved them. sure they wouldn't have been the same people in a sense, but he would have done it for Dahlia. granted, he had no idea how to turn someone given that he had never done it before but it couldn't be that hard. could it? after Dahlia had lost her family these were thoughts that had plagued Donovan. he would have done anything for his best friend and hated himself for the fact that he didn't. even though he knew there was no way he could have saved them, it didn't make him feel any better. this alone was why he hadn't told Dahlia. he didn't want her to blame him. he didn't want her to think that he didn't care enough to try and save them. he tried not to think this way but it was hard. he cared about Dahlia, some times more then he should. it was thankful for the both of them though, that he could control himself. especially that one faithful night. merlin it had taken all the strength in him to pull away from her, but he knew it wouldn't be right. she had just lost her husband, she had drank way to much and that just wasn't how he wanted things to go. it had screwed his mind right up though. made him wonder if she had kissed him only because of the alcohol or if perhaps there was something more. it was the last thing either of them needed, more confusion, but that hadn't stopped it from forming.
he had never told Dahlia about her actions that night, nor did he really plan on it. as far as he knew she didn't remember it and she didn't need to know. he didn't want a change in their friendship, she needed him right now and he wasn't about to affect that. seeing the smile on her lips, no matter how small it was, made Donovan feel better. he knew she had progressed a lot in this last year but still had so much more to go through. one thing he knew for sure was he was going to continue to be there for her, no matter what. "you're welcome." he smiled at her, something that was almost natural when he was around her. wrapping his arms around her hugging her back as she hugged him, just enjoying the feel of her in his arms. softly rubbing her back in a comforting manor, something he became accustom too. the smile remained on his lips as she looked up at him and he stood silently looking back at her. unable to help himself in noticing how beautiful she was. he often wondered if she knew how beautiful she was, though he doubted it. she never was the over confident type, some times too modest for her own good. a quality he seemed to like in girls. "hiding from little old me?" a chuckle escape his lips and he shook his head. a true laugh then escaped his lips at her comment. if only she knew. "i hardly doubt that's true. you wake up looking just as gorgeous as you did when you went to sleep." Donovan told her being completely truthful. there were several times when he had spent the night at her place over the past year, just to be there when she woke up. not to mention the dozen times he had been at the malfoy manor with her. her curls would stick out all over but she still looked incredibly gorgeous. to him at least.
"even with your curls all over the place." he teased, gently flicking a strand of her hair. a soft laugh escaped his lips as she looked away from him, not that he had minded her staring. it was rather cute. looking up at the sky then back down to Dahlia. "perhaps not." he nodded his head. placing his hand on the small of her back, feeling better when he had some contact with her. "where would you like to go then? campus? a cafe? are you hungry? my treat." the questions spilled from his lips as he looked down at his best friend. his eyes soft and a small smile remaining on his lips. |
