It never had been. when adele and jess were children, christmas was spent at the family's house, not Kelly's. The three of the girls were just fine in the house, but to have more than twenty in the house at once became too much. It was more of an apartment than anything, but it was what they were working with. The fact that kelly was allowing the gathering to happen was a miracle. The house consisted of two floors, one and a half bathrooms, three bedrooms and one tiny kitchen attached to one tiny dining room, if you could call it that, across from the living room. Still, it was the home of one adele potter, and her little sister, jessamine, and their mother, kelly white. It was the only home adele had ever known, and the only place she ever felt truly at home. A dormitory at hogwarts was just a room for her to stay in. The room she lived in at university was simply stayed in once she was too tired to stand. And even then, she spent more time in mason's room than anything. It was something she didn't like to admit to herself, even now. She felt more at home while sleeping in mason's arms than in her own bed. But this... this was home. This little house where she was born and raised had always been her safe haven, no matter what. It was a place she could run to when the world got to be too much for her and everything else seemed to be going wrong. She knew her mother would be there waiting with open arms and a root beer float when she needed it. this was home, and it always would be. she could remember, in the childhood years she spent here, the amount of stubbed toes, paper cuts, sprained ankles and other amounts of endless "boo-boos" and "ouchies" she received as she ran around the house like a madwoman, pretending she could fly, or was a fairy princesses. every time she stepped in the house, she was reminded of something different, whether it be because of the same place she would always stub her toe on the top stair, or the stain on the counter from when she and jessie decided it would be a good idea to make paint out of sharpies and water. every moment of her childhood was in this house, moments that were unforgettable, ones she would rather have forgotten.
but despite the tininess of the house, it was the only place adele could even fathom having this semi-annual gathering. you see, adele was one of seven potters, nine if you counted her immediate scamander cousins. the other potters and the two scamanders were strangers to adele for the first eleven years of her life. well- that wasn't entirely true. adele grew up on her own, with her mother and sister alone, no help from their father. she never knew any better. she knew of evangeline, her other sister that was about the same age as she was, and evie was in the same situation as adele and jessie. it was just her and her mother, no one else. so adele and jessie became very close to evie. it seemed natural for the two of them to be close with their sister yeah? and they were aware of the fact that they had two other cousins with the last name of potter. but upon entering hogwarts, both evie and adele were informed that the two of them had two older, twin brothers. avant and nicholas were their names, and they were as blonde as adele was brunette. they were the reason that james potter did not stay with kelly white, or everlee benson (more commonly referred to as aunt lee by adele). james was married to the twins' mother, and stayed with them, only seeing evie, jessie and adele when their mother's allowed it. nick and avant got him all the time. and in that moment, adele began hating james potter. but that did not hinder her love for her older brothers, or her two sisters. they were still family, even if their father was... not a very nice person, to say the least. for the hell of it, adele invited fabian and his brother. they were potters, after all, and this was a potter party. declan and her brother were also invited, of course. adele adored declan. she was a sweetheart, and adele loved being around her. of course they were welcome to come as well. it was her party, and her family, so it was at her discretion that the invitations were handed out. of course, aunt lee was invited. kelly needed someone to be around, didn't she?
in all honesty, adele was shocked that her mother was still allowing these gatherings. having evie in her house was one thing. the girls grew up together, since their mothers were in the same situation. but the twins? adele couldn't imagine how her mother felt when she saw nick and avant in her house. they were the oldest, and yet james stayed with them. it was their mother that they took after in looks, and it was their mother that james potter stayed with, leaving kelly with a one year old daughter and a baby eighteen years ago. but adele was always surprised by her mother's heart. the treated the twins as if they were her own sons. she would still not speak about their mother, even if she had left james. it was too much for her. but adele admired her mother for that. she was excited for this little potter party. there was more than one reason as to why she was holding it though. it was true, she loved and missed her entire family, but there was another matter at hand, one that was more important. james had been diagnosed with cancer, and the only one taking care of him was evie. however, her concern was not for her ailing father, but for her poor sister, who was sacrificing everything just to take care of him. her studies in university were taking a backseat to everything she was forced to do for james. after giving her a lifetime of nothing, she was sacrificing everything for him, and it wasn't fair. adele didn't exactly have a better alternative or anything, but it needed to be discussed. if the twins cared as much about evie as adele did, they would do something. dell didn't even think to ask jessie to help. no. it wasn't the girl's job to do it. not after the life they had without him. and anyway... jess had a lot of other things to deal with that were far more important than their absent father. fabian, declan and their brothers were there more for the party aspect, but james was their uncle, and if they had a better idea, she was more than open to hearing it. but that could wait until later. for now, it was a party, and adele couldn't wait for her family to arrive. potters <3 |

declan was unsure of her invitation today. not because she didn't fit into the potter family scene, but because of the awkwardness between her uncle's children. it was really odd to her how one man could just simply walk away from children, from responsibility. of course, what did she know about children and family? other than the monstrosity that was her own. over the years the potter and weasley clan had grow in proportional sizes. there were dozens of them now, scattered all across england. declan couldn't even count how many cousins she had anymore. of course, adele had always been close to her. the pair were just in sync with one another, to the point where perhaps this meeting wouldn't be all too awkward. then there was the fact that declan had more or less shied away from her family in the past few years. she wasn't ready to face the looks and questions about her quidditch demise just yet.
the accident had happened nearly two years ago. a rogue bludge had bashed the back of her skull during a game with the appleby arrows. she fell fifty feet to the ground and just barely survived. one induced coma later, she had a metal plate in her head and was having to relearn certain things. the most difficult had been walking. she remembered how to do the task, it was just getting her brain to cooperate with her nerve impulses that took time, and months of physical therapy. over the years, declan had grown to greatly dislike any hospital scene-- even the nurses office at the school. what declan had neglected to tell anyone was that she hadn't fully resolved all her symptoms. over the past few months, her headaches had gotten worse. she was beginning to develop blurred vision, and sometimes felt like she'd pass out. sometimes there were even hallucinations, which was not something you wanted to relay to doctors or healers.
declan didn't want the attention. what she wanted was to forget an injury had even occurred. she wanted to just be declan scamander again, and adele was the person to allow this. besides, this was a party, not a pity parade. she had already made up her mind to make a fake excuse and leave the party in case things became too tense. with a rather large and dysfunctional family, it was always a good idea to have a scapegoat. especially a rather nosy family.
as she neared the door, declan stopped just short of knocking and tried to catch her breath. a sudden tightness in her chest and squiggly dots in her eyes paralyzed her for a moments time. it hadn't been the first time something like this had happened to her, and she was positive it wouldn't be the last. taking a few, deep breaths, declan regained her composure, despite the throbbing pain that had begun right behind her left eye. she reached out and rapped lightly on the door of the small home, a smile plastered to her face. this was a party, and declan was determined to make it one.

i wanna help you fly * family was something that was never secure to evie. she had family of course but not the type that was always solid. there would always be her mother but her dad, james potter he was a different story. while evie knew he was getting stronger each day, she felt as if her father had always been selfish. when he had become ill and had asked one of his offspring to take care of him, evie had instantly taken up the request. she really didn't want to but he knew that james would never ask of the twins to tend to him since they were the boys of the family, jessamine was just a baby which left her and adele. adele potter, her half-sister but evie didn't even consider the half anymore. they were sisters. the girls were in the same year and house. the only thing they had in common was probably their height and eyes but they were total sisters. evie always knew that she wasn't the only child from james potter, her mother had occasionally been invited to potter/weasley events but while she had refused, she had pushed evie to go. now how awkward was it for her. she didn't fit in with them. the only connection that she had with them was the temporary relationship that her mother everlee and james had. if they had used protection that one night, evie wouldn't have been born. james potter had to be grateful for her. evie was a weakling. she had always been and she had extremely large soft side for anyone. even when she was younger, evie was never scared of being a nurse. she'd be all by herself outside of her small home and she'd find an injured animal, evie would run in finding a cloth and a shoe box to put the poor animal in. she was only around the age of eight at that time and she couldn't control any of the magic that she exhibited. she had always known that she wanted to heal people.
evie was really focused on school (probably the reason why she was in ravenclaw) but she didn't want a social life to make her stray away from becoming a healer. this was an exception though. adele and jessie were holding some kind of reunion at their home. evie had been there more than once so it was normal for her to go. to see her twin brothers at the home would be a little different. she had met them when she was younger but actually never formed a relationship with them till later on. as children, they didn't understand that there was more to their history. they were just known as brothers/sisters. it didn't hit evie till later on when her mother told her about what happened between james potter and her. evie was very hurt knowing that her father had chosen them instead of her. it did pull her heartstrings now knowing that she was the one taking care of him and he had never taken care of her. he had changed one or two diapers but that was it. he took off after about a week. evie's mother never did find another man for herself. she had boyfriends but it was like her mother was in a daze when james potter was ever mentioned. sorta starstruck at the man who had been one of the most famous quidditch players. it was funny, for a man who looked like he had everything, he really didn't. at james' worst times he would mutter things to evie like she took after harry potter himself or that she made him proud to have a daughter. the only thing that she took after harry for was her dark locks and proud of what? proud when she was there to fluff his pillows. not proud that she had done well in all her classes at hogwarts. evie couldn't hold a grudge on her dad, it was useless. she would never get anything back from it.
evie walked up to the home holding a tin of sweets that she had made. her mother insisted that she make something instead of being a pig and eating all of their food. evie knew her mother was right and had whipped up some cupcakes. evie had put on a pair of jeans, a lace tank and navy blue cardigan. her mother had never been a fan of evie's choice of tattoos and evie was a good girl so she listened to her mother choosing a long-sleeve cardigan from her closet. once she got to the door, evie saw declan standing at the door. she grinned running up. "hi declan!" evie smile was huge seeing her cousin. she also was in ravenclaw but a year younger than she was. she had grown used to just barging herself into the home but she saw declan waiting there. evie decided that barging in might not be showing any manners so she held back from trying to rip the doorknob off of the door. evie raised one of her small hands up and formed a fist. she knocked lightly against the door. "ele! open the door! it's your favorite girls!" this reminded evie of when they were younger. evie would be ten years old and she'd come to the home with her sleeping bag that was bigger than her, she'd knock on her door waiting for ele to come to the door. when they did, they'd run into ele's room and start some chaos. they would gush over when they would gush about the fact that they were going to hogwarts the next year. they'd gush about the boys that they'd meet and how they'd be the most popular girls. it was total rubbish now but at the time, it had been a blast to evie. they had been just little girls then and now they were twenty year olds sharing a dorm at university. she hardly saw ele though. evie never did ask where she was but she was guessing a boy's room? secretly evie was a little jealous of her sister's looks. she had gotten shiny brunette hair, bright brown eyes, curves with a cute little nose. she wasn't a stick of a girl with greasy dark hair, bland brown eyes and a nose that voldemort would have died for.
