It was an hour after muggle studies, he didn't even know how that class was related to his major. Really, it wasn't, but he needed an elective so Dakota Malone had decided to pick the easiest class.
Why not study what you live around. It wasn't cheating it just made you more productive when you finished the assignments in class. Dakota thought this to himself with a grin. He laid down on the long blue couch in the Ravenclaw common room clad in a t-shirt and a pair of faded jeans. He normally changed out of his school robes after class. He had deposited his books in his normal place for them on his desk. Dakota glanced at his watch for a moment. Surely, Soraya Lupin would join him in the Ravenclaw common room and while he was waiting he had set up the wizard's chess board.
It was nice to put aside studies for a while and just relax. He figured that he needed a nice break that it would be good for him. Seeing as he never seemed to get any down time. Between Qudditch practice, perfect duties, and tutoring younger years in the library for a few galleons each weekend that there wasn't a Qudditch match. Well, it was safe to say that Malone wasn't one to not be active. He was enjoying his second year Healing courses. Although, he'd never been too fond of Potions. Healing consisted heavily of the subject. That and Herbology. He proposed that it made sense seeing that droughts and potions were used to cure ailments. Transfigurations and Charms were also needed courses, but those had always been his favorite subjects so. Dakota enjoyed that. There were other strictly Healing courses at the University too, but there were only a few of those that Kota was required to take this year.
He hunched over a book about Advanced Charms. His dark brown eyes scanning the pages when he noticed the slender blonde walk into the room. "Well, hello, Raya," he glanced up from the top of his book and smiled at her. "Ready to kick my arse at a game of wizard's chess?" he teased with a grin upon his face. He sat his book down on the table and then made his way around the couch he was lying on to one of the back tables where he had set up the chess board.
"What took ya so long?" he asked. His hair slanted down awkwardly into his eyes, but he shoved it out of the way with his hand trying to see better. Hector, sadly was right, his hair was getting way too long.

[/div] not alone It would be something of a lie to say that Soraya Lupin enjoyed muggle studies. She only took it because her father had spent the last eighteen years of her life lecturing to her about the importance of understanding them, or something. Personally, she didn’t get it. Not that she had anything against muggles in the slightest, she believed in equality and all of those things, but it just seemed to so irrelevant. Especially when the lecturer was incredibly boring, her classmates were mostly as thick as bricks and the class as a whole was a complete waste of time. It wasn’t a surprise that Soraya excelled in it, and she expected nothing less of herself. Today, however, had been interesting. Different, if you will. Because today, today Soraya had made a new friend. And, considering the two were going to be spending a considerable amount of time with this new friend, she was exceptionally excited that she was going to be seeing him after class. Obviously, Soraya had heard of Dakota Malone before. After all, they were going to be playing the role of prefects for the year, and she had heard from her father who her suitor in the role was going to be. Dakota was the star of the quidditch team, he was an amazing scholar, super involved. Even though she hadn’t officially met him, she had always been in competition with him- even if he didn’t know it. But now, since they were on the same level and all, Soraya could justify being friends with him. Not that that was ever going to stop her before or anything, no. But she was glad that they were officially friends. He seemed like the kind of person that would make being a prefect more fun (and yet, at the same time, a bit more serious). They were planning on meeting in the common room about an hour or so after class, and Soraya was genuinely excited. Something that, as much as she hated to admit it, not many people seemed to arouse out of her.
But then this, of course, brought up the one question that seemed to haunt Soraya’s existence. What was she going to wear? Like Dakota, she didn’t like wearing the routine and, just plain boring, robes after class had ended. Instead, she would usually pull on some old trackies and a singlet, curl into bed and read for a while. But, since she had plans with a particularly good looking boy today, she knew that sweatpants and a dirty singlet probably weren’t going to cut the mustard. Instead, she found herself rummaging through her clothes, trying to find something that looked nice, but casual. Eventually, she found some faded jeans and a white singlet, coupled with a blue cardigan thingy that would have to do. As she began to leave to dorm and make her way to the common room, a small freshman girl stopped her, needing help with a leaking tap. Well, that had been something of an understatement. The girls bathroom, where the younger girl dragged her too, was not only flooded but also spraying water in absolutely every direction. And, after a fruitless battle with magic (the sink in question seemed to be hexed pretty well) Soraya finally braved the water and went in, ensuing in another painful battle. But, after about another half an hour of fighting, the tap finally relented and Soraya was able to address the issue of the water in the bathroom. Having earnt a bright smile and thank you from the freshman girl, who then proceeded to pull a boy in the bathroom, Soraya left quickly to return to the common room, soaked, cold and slightly impatient.
It was, however, well worth it when she came across Koty and his wizard chess board. She couldn’t help but laugh as she walked in and saw it. “Hey!” She said brightly as he looked up from his book before moving towards the table in the back of the room. ”Well, if you insist.” She said with another giggle, following him to the back of the common room. Taking her seat, she took off the sopping cardigan before pulling out her wand. She could make her clothes dry with a simple spell, but her hair? Unfortunately, not quite. Looking up from her now dry cardigan, she watched him flick the hair out his eyes (a motion which had, coincidentally, made her heart skip a beat or so), she shrugged. “Prefect duties. Some girl wanted to get it on in a leaky bathroom.” She said in an almost monotonic voice. She hadn’t been prefect for very long at all, and yet she had some horror stories about her job. Looking at the board, and then Koty, she smiled brightly. “You start.” Watching his move, Soraya began to calculate strategies and stuff in her head. “So, how was the rest of your day?” She asked, moving her own player before flicking her loose hair behind her shoulder. This was about to get serious. [/div] 851 WORDS, DAKOTA/ELLA, outfit, YAY FOR THEM! I'M SO EXCITED! Kota nodded when she explained the situation with the leaky bathroom. Sometimes, he hated being a perfect for that reason. Walking in on two rule-breakers who thought they could get away with a quick shag. He'd actually witnessed one once. That was something that he didn't want to recall to memory. However, how red that Ravenclaw's face got when he gave them both detention for breaking curfew and a couple other broken rules.
That seemed to make that awkward situation all the better for Malone. He ran a hand absent-mindedly through his hair. "Being a perfect isn't always easy... especially at Uni.. in comparison to Hogwarts... being a perfect seems well easier there." he laughed. He contemplated his first move for a moment. "Pawn to E2," he said calmly. Dakota thought about the rest of his day for a moment. "Well, Potions was all right. Though, I've never been too fond of the course. It's neceassary for healing. I perfer droughts over actual potions for some reason." he smiled over at her.
"Then I had to give two blokes detention for trying to harass this Hufflepuff freshman girl into letting them look up her skirt." he rolled his eyes. "Merlin, junior blokes can be so immature ... and among other things. Just pigs." he paused. He explained to her how interesting Herbology was just after Muggle Studies. That Qudditch practice had been cancelled today and he was grateful for that because today always just seemed like a very long day.
He produced a bag of sugar quills from his pocket and then offered her one. Dakota grinned. Sticking one of the quills in his mouth and letting the sugar melt on his tongue practically. "Want one?" Sugar quills had always been his favorite candy, second to blood pops, but his favorite muggle candy was peanut butter cups and licorice - the red kind, not the black. Dakota had never much cared for Bertie Bot's Every Flavored Beans because every time he got one. His flavour was always something disguesting.
"We all set for this weekend then, Lupin?" he eyed her. Dakota then quickly adverted his gaze to the chess board so that she wouldn't think he was staring, but he probably was. He wouldn't deny that she was beautiful because she was. Long legs, slender frame, that veela blood that coursed through her veins. Damn, genetics. Those eyes that he found himself getting lost in. Her fair complexion. He really needed to stop getting caught up in his own thoughts. Dakota felt the tips of his ears begin to go red. Though, Dakota was newly friends with Soraya Lupin he had always known who she was. Given that one of her brothers was in the same year as Carter. That and she was just one of those girls that a bloke spotted in corridors and thought she's out of my league . The more Dakota got to know Soraya though he realized that they seemed to be very similar. He liked that about her. She seemed to be quirky, fun-loving, and had an interest in the world that he grew up in and around for eleven plus years of his life.
She was intelligent, prudent, she spoke her mind. He could actually hold a full-on conversation with her in comparison to other girls that he'd briefly dated or been friends with in the past.
All together - Dakota found her to just be brilliant. In his opinion.
"I do believe it's your move," he murmured. Gesturing to the board.
