dear stranger, i hate to be a burden, but i figured this would be worth a shot, considering it was either ancient runes or writing a letter to a complete stranger. obviously, you can see which of the two won out. i wrote a letter like this in my sixth year, but that didn't turn out so well. second time's the charm, right? well, anyway. i'm nyla.

dear nyla,
considering you just saved me from having to continue on with a rather unpleasant assignment for herbology, i suppose i should thank you. your letter was a welcome distraction, though i didn't see it coming. i'm melina. nice to meet you.

dear melina, nice to meet you, melina. oh, man. herbology is atrocious as well, so i suppose we were both in the same boat. sorry for the surprise, however i am rather glad that someone replied. so aside from that terrible assignment, how are you?

dear nyla,
aside from the assignment i would love to give to some of the man eating plants? i'm not all that bad, thanks. just adjusting to university life and trying to get through it with as few complications as possible. goodness knows that i will probably get into a little trouble here, so i'd like to keep that to a minimum if at all possible. i sometimes say things that others don't necessarily like...

dear melina, ha, i wouldn't mind doing the same to my assignment, actually. or the teacher for giving it to us in the first place. oh, so you're a freshman, then? i can remember my first year here. my eldest sibling pantsed me in front of the entire class. not a fun time. but anyway, i'm sure you'll do fine. you seem nice enough, and naturally, people like nice people. however, i understand what you mean about saying things that people don't like. growing up with nine other siblings, i tend to be brutally honest sometimes. i think it's a rather lovely quality to have, personally.

dear nyla,
wow. i don't think i'd ever get over the shock of that...but my brothers would never do that to me. my eldest brother is a senior as well, and i think he'd kill anyone who even looked at me the wrong way. i guess i got lucky there. i'm the youngest of three kids, and i'm the only girl, so both of my brothers are fairly protective of me. i can hardly walk down the corridors without seeing them at least once, it's like they are constantly standing watch over me or something. but yeah, i'm a freshman. am i that readable?

dear melina, oh, well you're very lucky, then. some of mine tend to be protective given the right situation, but the fair majority of the time they're like i mentioned before -- complete and total pranksters. no matter how many people are watching, unfortunately. but if yours are there watching over you, then you've probably got nothing to worry about. which is a good thing, of course. oh no, you're not readable -- i just noticed that you said that you were still adjusting, so i sort of assumed that you were. i can recall my first year here -- it's definitely one of those things that you just have to get used to.

dear nyla,
i suppose so. it's actually the worst from the oldest brother because of how different they really are. i mean, paxton loves me just as much and he's incredibly protective but...well, my eldest brother is definitely the more intimidating of the two. though i suppose that's all i can really expect from them, and i'd much rather them be overly protective then not care at all if it came down to it. there really is no middle ground with brothers, is there? oh well, it's something i will have to endure. so far the year has been pretty interesting. i mean, it's not exactly what i had thought it would be, but i can't say that i'm disappointed at all.
