"well, a lot of people say i'm one of the nicest guys they know. whether it's because i help pick up their binders if they get knocked out of their arms or i give homework help when needed is anybody's guess. while a good deal of my friends are guys, i have a few girl friends (space intended), who, when asked by other people, say they're friends with me because i'm really nice. i try to help out people when i can in some way or another. i'm also one of the more shyer people you'll meet, especially when i'm in a new environment. i find it hard sometimes to talk to new people, and usually i make my friends during a school project, being introduced by another friend, or whenever i feel abnormally outgoing, which does happen sometimes, to some people's surprises. while there are many good things about being nice and shy, it also sometimes makes me a target by some bullies. however, they usually leave me alone when i hex them with a handy jinx in self-defense. i know, hexing people isn't nice, but bullying people isn't very nice either. plus, the only time i hex people is when they bully me more than once."
intelligent & independent
"i was sorted into ravenclaw mainly due to my intelligence. i guess you could argue that i seem to be more of a hufflepuff than a ravenclaw, but people who usually say that usually haven't seen me when i'm near exams or am dealing with homework. whenever my exams come up, or whenever i have a nasty piece of homework to deal with, people can tell that i'm a ravenclaw. i put a lot of time and effort into my studies, and when i study for important exams i spend two to four and a half hours of studying time. i also find school interesting, which i guess would make you a ravenclaw. but then again, who wouldn't like going to a school like hogwarts, or the university? i've also been described as independent. i guess that's because i have some pride, or hubris, inside of me. it's not enough to make me arrogant, yet it's enough to make me want to achieve my goals on my own accord. whenever i do well, it's not because i relied too much on other people to gain my goal. i mean sure, a little help every now and then is good. but i prefer to gain my goals by myself. i feel better that way, for some reason. my dad is the same way."
hobbies & interests
"now what does your average twenty year-old texan do in his free time? well, i don't know about other twenty year-old texans, but i really like to ride horses and participate in rodeos back home. maybe it's because i'm from texas, or i grew up on a ranch, but i've always enjoyed those two activities. i've also always been good with horses, and i enjoy riding and taking care of my horse, stormy, when i visit Texas in the summer. besides horses, horse-back riding, and rodeos, i also like to write a lot. my dream is to become a writer when i graduate from the university. i also love music, because, when played right, music is a beautiful thing. while i'm majoring in writing and literature, i'm minoring in music. i also am really interested in astronomy. my mother loved astronomy too, and when me and john and casey were little, she'd take us out in our backyard at night and we'd watch the stars. she taught us about all the constellations, where they were, and how you could find them in the night sky. another thing my mom loved to do was cook, and her cooking is one of the things i look forward to when i visit home. even though i'm considered a glutton, even you would be drooling over her peach pies.
ryan's ideal self
"i know i'm all nice and shy. but i sometimes wish i wasn't as shy. that i was really outgoing and popular, and being someone that was the life and soul of the party. someone who wouldn't be afraid to go up to people you didn't know anything about, and say 'hi, what's your name?' sometimes my shyness is annoying, but being shy seems to be an ingrained habit for me, whether i like it or not. i also wish i was better at dancing. like, traditional brittish dancing. i can't dance in general, and the only dance i'm good at is the cotton eye joe, which is a texas dance. nobody in brittain asks you to do the cotton eye joe for them. i also wish i wasn't as scared about fire as i am, but i can't forget what happened years ago. i guess... my life's ok, but what i want to do is actually live life to its fullest. but i just don't know how."

history:
"so. you want to know my history? well... ok... but some of it ain't pretty. where to begin? i guess we should start off with my parents. my dad was a pureblood wizard, who lived in the texas countryside, and my mom was just a muggle, whose family owned and ran a ranch in the same town that my dad lived in. they met in town one day, while my dad was hanging out with some friends and my mom was doing some errands. it was love at first site, basically. nothing could stop their love, not even my dad's parents, who weren't very excited at the fact that their son had fallen in love with a muggle. however, when my mom, who was an amazing chef, cooked them a dinner, they gave her their blessing. then they had my siblings john, and then casey, and two years after they had casey they had me. we grew up in the ranch with my mom's parents. from the start i always loved to ride the ranch's horses, as well as play quidditch. i knew how to ride a horse before i could toddle. since the ranch was isolated from most of the town, it was ok to ride our toy broomsticks in the backyard.
when i was seven, a fire happened at the ranch. my grandmother, my mother's mother, in her old age, had forgotten to turn the stove off. a fire began to consume our ranch house. my family managed to escape, and dad did a spell to stop the fire from reaching the stables and the barn, as well as another spell that put out the fire. everybody was fine, though casey and i were burned a little, and with the combined effects of my mother, grandmother and father, we was ok. dad used magic to rebuild our house in a jiffy. but almost every night, even a little more than a decade afterwards, i still dream about it. the flames, the frightened cries of my family members. and sometimes, when the nightmares get really bad, i remember the sight and the pain of my burns. ever since then, i've always been afraid of fire, and i try to avoid fire at all costs. it's seems silly to most people... but i can't forget that terrible night, and if my family were muggles, it would have been a lot more scary and devastating than it had been for us, with our dad as a wizard.
soon enough, when they were eleven, my siblings got their letters of acception to the texan academy of magic in an unplottable wizard village nearby austin, texas. i wanted to go ever since john's owls came back, telling us about the amazing academy, but i had to wait three years until i got my letter of acception too. i went to the academy, and immediately began to have a good time. there were no houses, and instead everybody was divided by grades, such as grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, and grade 7. i had an awesome time at the academy, and i was on one of the three quidditch teams for my grade. i had a reasonable amount of friends, but i never had any girlfriends or love interests. yes, i did notice girls, but i believe in long, commited relationships, and none of those girls ever seemed to be the right girl.
i did well in my examinations, thanks to studying hard whenever an examination came close, and did well in school. eventually i graduated from college with top grades, one of the best in my grade, and unsure what i was going to do next. would i work for the united states ministry of magic? for some reason, i wasn't very interested in the ministry. instead, i decided to continue and develop my education by applying to a university, preferably for one for wizards and witches like me. i applied to many colleges like that around the world, and got accepted into most of them. however, after much decision, i decided to go to the university of hogwarts. though a little more expensive then my parents had expected, they always wanted the best for me, and decided to pay all the expenses. upon my arrival at the university, they borrowed the sorting hat from the hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, and after one minute of debating whether i should be a hufflepuff or ravenclaw, it decided on ravenclaw. i became a beater on the ravenclaw quidditch team, and made myself a life at the university, and returned to texas in the summer. like at the academy, i had a reasonable amount of friends, and yet again, no special girl out there. my accent became less stronger than when i first arrived, but it's still there nowadays. currently i'm in my junior year, and even though i visit texas in the summers, i still miss it. i miss my jet-black horse, stormy. i miss my siblings and parents. and most of all, i miss my mother's cooking and her amazing peach pies."

rett seemed to be very anxious for joe to come and talk. was it really that serious? joe hadn't know his friend to be quite this serious or anxious before. joe was usually the worrier, the more serious one of the group, while rett was usually the prankster and the hyper one. what was bothering his friend, it must be pretty serious. joe hadn't ever seen his friend like this before. maybe hogwarts had somewhat changed rett like it had changed joe a little bit. ever since he began to date jolie, he had been a little more outgoing, changing joe for the better. had it changed rett for the better or the worse? taking a look at how anxious his friend was, joe decided that it was the later. or maybe joe was wrong. maybe it was just today. well, whatever it was, joe would find out in a few minutes. he then took another sip of his cherry soda, and then listened to rett's story. if there was one thing good about joe, it was that he was a good listener. when somebody confided in him, joe wouldn't say anything until the confider was done talking, and he always put his attention to the other person and kept eye contact with him or her. shy yet a good listener, that was one way to describe joe. which one was better?
joe nodded a little, silently, when rett mentioned emmeline bletchley. joe wondered where this would go. how was emmeline bletchley part of what rett was going to confide joe about? "yes... alec would never stop talking about that girl," he said, when rett said alec was in love with her in their third year, still not sure what emmeline had to do with anything. and then rett began to confess his biggest secret. now joe could clearly see what emmeline bletchley had to do with anything. in fact, she had to with everything. OK. so... how was joe going to give his friend advice? joe hadn't gotten very far in the romance category. in fact, jolie was his first girlfriend. he hadn't had any exes, anything else romance-wise. well, one little piece of advice was very clear in joe's head. but first, he'd have to calm down his friend. "calm down, rett. being drunk for the cause of sleeping with someone is understandable. alec won't kill you for it. here, have some honeydukes chocolate. that always manages to calm me down when i'm panicking." reaching down in his honeydukes shopping bag, joe brought out a bar of chocolate and broke off half of it, then gave it to rett. when his friend was somewhat calmer, joe began to give advice. "well, before you tell alec about these little incidents," no doubt rett was probably not willing to tell alec anything about this, and was about to complain, but joe put a hand up, silencing his friend, and went on "you need to think about why you slept with emmeline not once, but two times. because nobody, except for longterm boyfriend and girlfriends and husbands and wives, sleeps with another single person more than once unless it's because of the following. one, they really like the other person's body. two, they like the other person for who they are. or maybe it's a combination of both." joe looked his friend right in the eye and said, "now, buddy, which of the tabove describes your reasons for sleeping with emmeline?"
well, that was the other clear thing that joe had wanted to say to his friend. the other thing was telling alec. once rett would answer joe's first piece of advice, he would say more about the "let's go tell alec you slept with emmeline twice" piece of advice. however, it's always better to do one thing at a time than all at once, right? while joe waited for a response, he took another sip of his cherry soda. mmm. cherry soda was delicious. besides chocolate, cherry soda was one of joe's most favorite foods. a few more sips later, joe was done with his cherry soda. ordering another one, and his last one, from madam rosmerta, then ate a few pieces of honeyduke chocolate. delicious! it was like joe was in food heaven, eating chocolate from honeydukes, the best chocolate selling place ever, and drinking cherry soda. however, there was rett in mind. joe couldn't just go off in his own little food heaven at the moment. his friend needed him for advice, and it wouldn't do rett any good to have his friend distracted. joe turned back his attention to rett, just in time, for his friend was beginning to respond to joe's first piece of advice.
