| university was honestly going to be the death of her. not that she really thought it would be a breeze but all the school work was seriously cramping her social life. the week had been so busy with classes and the take home work load had been so large, that Aria hadn't had time to escape. usually her nights were full of flirting and waking up in some random guys bed. not this past week though. she barely had time to breath let alone to flirt with a single guy. sure she talked to a few that she shared classes were, but ninety percent of the time it was about an assignment. she couldn't even suggest they work on the assignment together because she knew she'd just get distracted. it was seriously putting her in a foul mood. this generally made everyone else around her annoy her rather quickly. she had snapped at some innocent people simply because they had been laughing. if she recalled correctly she had threatened to throw her abnormally large textbook at them if they didn't shut up. thankfully they were freshman so she had intimidated them and they ran away before she could cause some major damage. it had been an incredibly long week, one that she wished she didn't have to repeat. unfortunately it was just the beginning of the year, which meant many more weeks like this to come. afraid that she was biting off more then she could chew, with majoring in History of Magic and minoring in Wandware. the debate on if she should just focus on one was constantly going on in her mind. Aria Avelyn Flint wasn't a quitter though so in the back of her mind she knew it wasn't an option. she'd never be able to forgive herself if she did drop one. she'd just have to learn to manage her time better.
merlin knew she missed the feel of a guys body against her own. nevermind anything else. it really just wasn't fair that there were so many yummy distractions at the University. so many guys that she hadn't flirted with, nor hooked up with. Aria often wondered if she made the wrong choice in not picking a major where the classes would be filled with all girls. then she wouldn't have the chance to be distracted because men were the only sex she was interested in. even if she was comfortable enough with her sexuality to admit when a girl was gorgeous. she could even often make a pretty could guy when it came to her actual male friends. she could do the whole, check out the girl at twelve o clock thing rather well. she had been the cause of helping Quinton hook up several times over the years that they had been friends. she missed her best friends though, with all her studies she hadn't even had time for them. minus Nyla of course since they practically inseperable ever since the train ride to Hogwarts. they even lived together off of campus, in a beautiful apartment that was their escape from University. given that the dorms were still split up like Hogwarts, by house. after all, Aria had to check up with her best friend on how her progress was going with her dare. oh the drunken fun those two had. they didn't need to be drunk to have fun, Aria didn't have many memories that didn't involve Nyla from Hogwarts and on. the two of them definitely knew how to cause trouble wherever they went. as gorgeous as they both were though it was no wonder.
usually Aria would be off at the apartment since it was the weekend. except being the hidden nerd that she was, Aria had signed herself up for an extra credit assignment. it may have been early in the year but she was determined to do good this year. no matter how much it had been kicking her butt thus far. the extra credit assignment was being held on a saturday. anyone who had signed up was allowed into the classroom to have everything they needed at their disposal. the library was only a few steps away if they needed more and the Professor could check on their progress. regardless if she had liked waking up early, Aria had dragged herself out of bed and had a quick shower. after grabbing herself an apple to munch on well she headed to the classroom, she had left. her satchel draped over her shoulder but her arms still full of books. there may have been everything at her disposal but she wanted to make sure she had everything she needed. for one little excuse to leave and she wasn't sure she would return. no matter how determined she was to get a good grade in her class. she was missing male interaction almost that much more. just managing to get in the door, with her arms full, Aria made her way up the large set of stairs. at least she wasn't missing out on her daily exercise. not only were her classes generally far a part, the stairs were almost worse then Hogwarts for merlin's sake. once up the stairs she made her way down the hall, her foot steps echoing with each step she took. the school was practically empty which only made her scowl even more. everyone else was enjoying sleeping in while she was pushing herself and her own limits.
not really figuring she'd see anyone important in this assignment Aria had dressed in nothing more then a pair of skinny jeans, a tee shirt with a light sweater over top that tied up just under her boobs. the tee shirt revealed a bit of cleavage but nothing major. usually wearing her hair in some kind of fancy up do she had decided to wear it down. allowing her natural curls to bounce from shoulder to shoulder. she was even sporting her reading glasses which weren't something she allowed anyone to see her in. she hardly though she was presentable for anyone but she was here for the assignment and nothing more. turning the corner, spotting her the classroom just down the hall. watching as a student emerged from the room. a very good looking male student at that. mentally cursing she sighed heavily and quickened her pace. "would you mind holding that open please?" she called out to him. suddenly glad that she had at least decided to put on make up after her shower. putting on her best smile as she reached the gorgeous young man. perhaps this extra credit assignment wouldn't be so bad after all.

back in Hogwarts, Caden had prepared himself well for the life that was what most would call the present. no, not because he was a paranoid hard worker who thought that, if he didn't memorize everything said that he would fail in life and end up living on the streets, but because he hadn't been like most of the guys in his year or even in the school for that matter. growing up as a child had been one of the hardest part of the Ravenclaw's life. his family had abandoned him and he didn't deal well. he resorted to habits that he wouldn't even mention if he didn't have too. the memories were still too easily made vivid from even the slightest recollection. every class at Hogwarts had been scored with top grades. the boy had nothing better to do than pay attention, study and distract himself with whatever plus extra side work with each and every class. one year he had even signed up for a class a year above (an exception being made with his uncle's help) as a type of therapy. sure, he had always got along with the girls real nice but he wasn't stable enough to help them out and still keep a good state of mind. school had been the one thing that kept him in line. like nicorette gum for smokers. or a clean diaper for a constantly bathroom-prone infant. it was helpful. nothing more complex when it came to an explanation. the time spent studying back through his first to seventh year made University easy for him. Caden found himself helping out to tutor kids who struggled but wanted to do better. he didn't bother with those who wouldn't even pay attention, as his patience level was good, but not that good. there was only an odd time that he would see potential in a kid who was only trying to be "cool". to busy himself, Caden had chosen to pick up an extra class. he was majoring in literature and minoring in wand lore. the boy already knew that, for a career path, he was going to be an editor for the daily prophet. it was decided a long time ago. he had merely picked up a minor to busy himself and find out about what made him curious. the art of wands always was fascinating for him. arriving early for the first day of the new extra course he had picked up, he sat down inside of the classroom and waited. he may look like a total dweeb being so early but that didn't matter to him. image wasn't the most important thing in his world. nor close to the top of the list for that matter.
honestly, the Ravenclaw had such low self-esteem that he didn't have it in him to care anymore. if he found it in himself, it would be depressing because no matter how much girls fondled over him, he couldn't see what they did. people said things they didn't mean every day. society was getting worse and worse for it. so in his mind, that was what they were doing. saying what they don't mean. being nice. as that was just what girls did. fiddling with his quill, it didn't take long for Caden to get bored. it seemed he had come to early. hell, the professor wasn't even there yet. waiting a little longer, he was just about to mentally swear at the professor for not being there to keep him company when an owl fly into the room and dropped a letter on the desk he was sitting on. assuming it was a personal letter, he almost didn't read the front of the letter. coincidently catching it, he saw that it was addressed to the entire class. curious, he didn't bother to wait for anyone else. instead, he unfolded it and started to skim over the letter. letting a stiff chuckle escape his lips, he couldn't help it when he read the first line. what had it said? well, it wasn't hard to guess. 'it may not be for another ten minutes or so for you early birds to arrive, but your professor has caught a case of what may be dragon pox. for your own health, the class is being cancelled until tomorrow when somebody can fill in for him. go, run- enjoy your weekend and don't worry about the class. ten minutes? he had already been there for at least that. letting out a sigh, he gathered his two textbooks and stood up, pushing in his chair silently. walking slowly over to the door, what was he going to do with his day now? he had purposely not made plans and denied any that came up because he knew that he had to attend the class that he signed his name down to participate in. he had never been a skipper, especially on the first day. taking the note with him, he decided that he was going to save everyone the trouble of entering the room and then reading it. grabbing his wand, he opened the door, walked out and shut it behind him. raising his wand, he waved it once and uttered a spell that stuck the owl to the door, open and ready for all those who were expected to come.
hearing a voice as he finished, he turned to see a brunette girl lugging a crap load of books coming his way. clearly she had to be a member of the class that was cancelled, considering there was nothing else in the corridor at this time on a Saturday, plus all of the textbooks she was carrying could only be for the class. he had purposely left most of them back in his dorm, knowing that they wouldn't need them all. if they needed one he neglected to bring, he'd either summon it or share with somebody who was close-by. simple. he had thought it all out beforehand to make his life ten times easier in the long run. rushing forward to help her, he was a true gentlemen. there was no way she was going to carry her own books, never mind that many at once! meeting her halfway, she may have asked him to hold the door open for her but there was no point. he had shut it, which meant that it had most likely locked behind him. who knew, it wasn't like he had checked. taking the books from her hand without asking, he hadn't met a girl who had minded since, well, ever. "the class is cancelled." he mentioned, neglecting to actually look up and see who she was yet. doing so right then, he acknowledged that she was one of the pretty girls that went to the University. "those glasses suit you." he commented, blushing slightly. he was good with girls, but in a different way than the average guy would considering himself. while others tried tactics that they knew the girl liked and wanted to hear, Caden was himself and said what was on his mind. he didn't lie or make up something he didn't mean or didn't have to be said. he wasn't a player. he never would be either. Caden would always be simply Caden.

Aria hated the whole double standard thing between guys and girls when it came to sleeping around, especially since she was sure she could do things better then most guys and all while wearing heels. though most of the time that helped. unfortunately for Aria these weren't normal circumstances, she wasn't coming from a late night rendezvous instead she had woken up this early on a Saturday on purpose. the extra assignment class had perked her interest the moment the Professor mentioned it. not because she was failing by any means but because she figured she could use all the help she could get this year. so far this year her evenings had been filled with staying up late to get her assignments finished, which wasn't exactly something that was thrilling her. she was used to spending her nights with Corvin, Quinton or Benedikt or some a bloke that caught her interest. she was used to being sociable not stuck in her dorm room for days and nights on end. though she figured that was what she got for having so many darn interests.
Aria's studies were like Quidditch to some students. they loved the sport and put their all into it because it was their main interest. unfortunately for Aria her studies weren't just one thing, there were a vast amount of them. from the History of Magic to Wandlore and even Literature, they all had held her fascinated. of course there was also her love for art, but that wasn't exactly something that was common knowledge with anyone. having so many interests was going to be her downfall this year though because she was just barely managing to keep up with her History of Magic homework, nevermind adding in Wandlore in there. thankfully she hadn't chosen to minor in the subject or else she'd be really screwed. at the moment it was just a class she took because she was convinced that she could handle it. Aria wasn't one to admit defeat easily, just like she wasn't one to admit when she was wrong. it just wasn't in her blood to quit something, not when she hadn't in the past and wasn't about to start. then she'd just be like others and that was honestly the last thing she wanted. she enjoyed being one of a kind far to much. there may be many girls at the University with almost the same mindset as her, except for most of them still wanted to fall in love. Aria did not. it was what made her so successful at landing guys. they all seemed to appreciate that she enjoyed no strings and she wasn't looking for something more. it was what she got for growing up around guys. she had the odd female friend but most of her close friends were males, it was just how it worked out for her.
part of her nearly wanted to cry when the door shut behind the gentlemen coming out. it would be hard to get the door open without dropping a single book. normally Aria wouldn't carry this amount of books with her, she would summon them or just cozy up with some guy and use his. her mind hadn't exactly been functioning properly when she woke up though so this was the result. early mornings really weren't her thing. when he rushed towards her, Aria was sure that he was going to knock into her and nearly prepared herself for the impact. she simply thought that maybe he hadn't seen her or had thought the large pile of books had spoken to him. however, it took her a moment to register that he had taken her books from her. blinking slightly as the weight was lifted from her arms, she wiggled her fingers then looked to the young man. it wasn't very often she met anyone with such gentlmenly ways. "thank you." she was really at a lost for words, not knowing what else to say. "you really didn't need to take them but thank you." still semi feeling the shock of him taking her books. it had taken everything in her not to whine and stomp her foot like a child when he told her the class had been cancelled. "please tell me your joking?" it wasn't that she really wanted to spend her Saturday in doors, she had just dragged herself out of bed for this. "the class is really cancelled?" Aria's voice was hopeful that he was simply teasing her for some sort of reason.
taking a moment to really look him over, Aria's mind was suddenly less worried about the class being cancelled. perhaps it wouldn't turn out to be such a bad day after all. placing her hand to her face when he commented on her glasses, she actually felt herself blush. "these things? thanks." she murmured, pushing them from her face and up into her hair. it wasn't like she needed them anymore anyways. "i hardly wear them outside of class. figured it was one less thing to do once i got in there if i wore them ahead of time." it wasn't that she didn't know she could pull them off, she did. she just wasn't used to getting compliments on them because it wasn't often that she wore them. "well, since the class is cancelled and we seem to be the only ones who showed up, would you care to go grab a coffee or something?" Aria asked, she saw no reason in not getting right to the point. "merlin knows i could use one right about now. its too early in the day to go for anything harder." a soft laughter escaped her lips as she looked from her books to him. "are you sure i can't take some of those?" it just didn't feel right for him to be holding everything and her nothing. especially since she didn't even know him. "i'm Aria by the way. Aria Flint. are you majoring in wandlore?" if he was, she really had to start paying more attention to her classmates. |
