ten things kalina likes,
i. MEN "What nineteen year old woman doesn't like men? A girl has needs that often require a man to fulfill every now and then. I've always got on better with men than I do women, as they are a lot more open and honest about what they think. I find women to be catty and often talk behind my back, so I much prefer avoiding them whenever possible. I guess I'm just used to being around men since I have two brothers and no sisters."
ii. ANIMALS "I've always had a fondness for animals that I've had since I was a small child. I used to bring home stray animals all the time, at least until mum had enough and told me to let them all go in the forest behind our house. I even work at the Menagerie where I take care of the animals and make a few sales."
iii. BAKING "Not very many people know that I enjoy spending my free time baking, other than the people I bake for. My grandma is a great cook and whenever I'd visit her she would show me how to make different treats that I would then bring home with me. My specialty are cookies and birthday cakes, but I have been known to make a few pies and tarts every now and then."
iv. STUFFED ANIMALS "Yes, I even have a fondness for animals of the fake variety. I have a huge collection of different kinds of stuffed animals all over my flat, which drives everyone who visits me nuts. I think they're cute, what's wrong with that?"
v. COTTON CANDY "You know that Muggle stuff that's made of spun sugar? Yeah, that's cotton candy. I tried it once with a Muggle mate of mine when I was eleven and got hooked. Any time I find myself in Muggle London I always hunt down a huge bag of the stuff to bring back home to snack on. It's delicious, even better than Pumpkin Pasties."
vi. RED ROSES "Whenever my dad would go away on one of his trips, he would always bring me back a single red rose. They're my favourite flower and they remind me of him. When I would get sick, he would place a vase of them on my bedside table so I could have something pretty to cheer me up. I always have at least one rose in my apartment at all times to remind me of him."
vii. CHILDREN "I am not quite sure what it is about children I like so much. Maybe it's the way they laugh when they're having fun or the way they say exactly what they're thinking when they're thinking it. I like the innocence children radiate, unlike the corruption of so many of the adults I know. I would like to have my own children some day, if I'm ever that lucky."
viii. QUIDDITCH "Quidditch is my second passion, other than animals of course. I have been a fan of the sport ever since I saw my first match when I was six and dad took us all out to watch England play against Russia. I loved the way all the players raced around in the air doing all these crazy tricks on thin pieces of wood. It was fascinating and I made dad go out and by me a broomstick right away afterwards. I played for my house team during my years at Hogwarts. I was a chaser and a pretty good one if I say so myself."
ix. SWEARING "What can I say? When you grow up with brothers who are always rough and crude, it kind of rubs off on you. I swear a lot, but never around mum. She would probably have a right fit if she ever heard me. I mostly swear when I'm real upset at something, or when I can't think of a better word to say."
x. FAMILY TIME "I come from a huge family who are all adults now and we're all off doing our own things. It isn't very often where we all can sit down together and visit, so when it happens I try to savor it. We try to all get together at least once a week when we're all in the same area."
nine things kilana hates,
i. LOSING "Let me be a little more specific here: I hate losing to my brothers. We're all very competitive and they never let me live it down when I lose to one of them. I've always had to try harder to win at things than they have, so when I lose it's devastating."
ii. IGNORANCE "I think it's ridiculous how some people can be so close minded about things they don't understand. I make an effort to try to learn about things that I don't know about, so should everyone else."
iii. BUMBLE BEES "I don't like bees in general, and I know that bumble bees don't technically have stingers. But that doesn't stop them from creeping me out. The buzzing sound they make and the erratic movements just makes me want to run away screaming my head off."
iv. STRONG PERFUME "I have allergies to really strong perfume so when I am around people who wear it, I start sneezing uncontrollably. There's nothing wrong with just a little spritz to smell fresh, just don't bathe in the bloody stuff."
v. THE COLOUR YELLOW "i'm sorry, the colour just hurts my eyes."
vi. CLASSICAL MUSIC "My mum listens to classical music almost twenty four seven back at home, even when we were growing up. It has got to be the most annoying type of music on the planet! It gives me a headache."
vii. LOUD NOISES "Who doesn't hate loud noises? I don't like girls who giggle loudly or guys who burp or fart louder than necessary. I like peace and quiet, and anyone who disrupts that will end up with a wand up their arse."
viii. VAMPIRES "Who doesn't get creeped out by vampires? They're dangerous and blood thirsty, and have no souls. I had a bad run in with a vampire when I was younger, and I still have nightmares about it."
ix. DISCRIMINATION "I don't like people who discriminate against other people just because they are different than them. I don't believe that because someone's skin colour or blood status is different than yours that they should be treated like shit. It makes me really angry when I see someone being treated badly."
eight things kilana remembers,
i. CHILDHOOD CRUSH "His name was Oscar Tomlinson and he was a Muggle boy who lived down the street from us growing up. He was a little older than me but we would hang out in the park on the corner when he wasn't in school. I was six and he was seven, and it was the sort of thing where he'd push me in the mud and I would bite his arm but we would go home smiling for hours. It was one of those childish crushes where you just wanted to hang out and nothing else. We were the best of friends until I had to move. I came home from Huddersfield to find that he had moved to France and we wouldn't see each other any more. It was devastating."
ii. RIDING HER FIRST BROOM "After going to my first Quidditch match I begged my dad to get me a broomstick. My dad would take me out to the yard every afternoon and teach me a little more about the sport each day. I remember when I first got on the broom and was able to get off the ground, I ended up falling off and landing on my arm and breaking it. Mum was horrified and threatened to throw out my broomstick but after my dad reassured her that the Healer could fix my arm and I would be fine, she relaxed. I kept practicing and eventually got a lot better at it."
iii. FALLING OFF THE OAK TREE "let me just say, i blame harlow for my fall. he kept whining about nobody wanting to play with him. that nobody loved him. it was annoying and i felt bad for him so i caved in since i wasn't doing anything. he decided that he wanted to play frisbee so we went outside. everything was fine until i accidentally threw it into the branches. i told him there was no way we were getting that down so he started crying. anyway, i couldn't get him to stop so i told him i'd get it down. i wasn't too happy about it. i hadn't climbed the tree in years so it took me a while but finally i got up there. i think my fingers were able to brush the frisbee, so i tried stretching out a little more and i ended up on the ground. i don't remember much really, i ended up with a concussion and a scar. harlow was just happy he got his stupid frisbee back."
iv. GETTING LOST FOR TWO DAYS "Behind my house is a huge forest that seems to go on for miles, and when we were kids we would all go out and play in it. One afternoon while we were playing hide and seek, my brothers told me to hide. I went pretty deep into the woods and found a great hiding spot. I waited there for hours for them to come and find me but they never did. I was seven and being left alone in a huge forest was terrifying. I wandered around for two days screaming and crying before my dad managed to find me. He scolded my brothers and grounded them for a month for losing me in there, and I refused to go back into the forest for several months afterwards."
v. TRAVELING TO BULGARIA "My dad had to go on one of his work related trips and last year he had taken just my older brother with him to a trip to Russia. This time it was my turn to go on a trip with dad alone and he took us to Bulgaria. It was a beautiful country filled with a rich and ancient history that was just so fascinating. It was by far my most memorable trip yet."
vi. RUNNING INTO A VAMPIRE "I was fifteen years old and my brothers and I were in Romania on a trip with my parents. Mum and dad were off doing work and the four of us were wandering the streets when I got sidetracked by something in the window of one of the shops. My brothers hadn't seen me stop and had continued on down the street. When I had turned to say something to them, they were gone and I was left alone. A figure had come out of the shadows of the alley next to the shop I was at and started moving towards me. When he got closer I could see his pale skin and when he opened his mouth to say something I saw his fanged teeth. I remember shrieking as loud as humanly possible but I was so scared I couldn't move. Thankfully before the vampire could do anything to me, my brothers had come running back because of my screams and scared it off. It was the scariest moment of my life."
vii. WINNING HER FIRST MATCH "I was fourteen years old and it was my very first match ever. It was Maroon against Olive, yes, we name our teams after weird things. Don't judge us, we were really young! Anyways the game was tied at three hundred points each. Both teams were very evenly matched as whenever one team would score, the other would score too minutes later. The game had gone on for four hours before the seeker on my team finally found the snitch and caught it, securing us a victory. It was the first time Maroon won while I was on the team."
x. LEARNING TO SWIM "Mum had this crazy notion that all children should learn how to swim because it was important or some shit. So being the good girl that I was, I went ahead with her idea and went to swimming lessons. I stood on the edge of the swimming pool and the instructor showed us how to properly dive into the water and proceed to swim. So I took a breath and jumped in. However I couldn't quite figure out how to float so I ended up sinking towards the bottom of the pool. Thank Merlin for the instructor jumping in and rescuing me otherwise I would have drowned. Needless to say I never did go back into the pool after that, or any other body of water."
seven people kilana loves,
i. ROBERT CHEVALIER "Dad and I are extremely close, probably because I'm his only daughter. We have a lot in common with a love of Quidditch and our same sense of doing things ourselves. Dad was the one who taught me how to play Quidditch and get good at it, even though mum was fully capable of teaching me too. With the two of us, we don't need words to communicate. We just understand what the other is thinking with just a look or two. I love my dad."
ii. KATHERINE CHEVALIER "I love my mum, I really do, but she can be a bit overbearing at times. She's very in your face opinionated and knows how to make you feel bad if you do something wrong. She was definitely the stern parent growing up, always dishing out the punishments whenever my brothers or I would get into trouble. We're not overly close, but we do talk as often as we can stand."
iii. HARLOW CHEVALIER "My oldest brother and I are close, but his over protectiveness towards me keeps us from getting any closer. He's a right pain in my arse and likes to chase off any men that show any interest in me, which really pisses me off. I suppose you could say he was the leader of us kids growing up since he was the oldest. We never really went against anything he said unless it was completely unreasonable."
iv. ANTONIO CHEVALIER "Tony and I have always had this unspoken understanding that if one of us needed to talk to someone we could go to each other. I'm definitely closer with Tony than I am with Harlow, only because it's so much easier to talk to Tony without him being overbearing. He's the first one I go to when there's something new going on in my life that I can't bring to telling anyone else right away."
v. JAYNE CHEVALIER "My grandmum is an amazing woman and I hope to be half the woman she is some day. She's smart as a whip and can cook up a storm. She's the one I gravitate to during family reunions and she's taught me a hell of a lot about baking and cooking. Mum's a terrible cook so I escaped to grandmum's whenever possible growing up."
vi. PAUL CHEVALIER "i love my granddad and all his stories, or adventures, even though some of them are make-believe. he's shown me things that make absolutely no sense to be but fascinating at the same time. he's the one that can calm me down by cracking some kind of joke, i love to visit and spend time with him in his shed where he hides his toy airplanes and dvds from grandmum."
vii. DR. SHELDON COOPER "I know he's not an actual person, but i love him! the big bang theory's amazing (yes i watch muggle television too) and it boosts my intelligence a little bit. and in general, jim parsons character makes me laugh. he's a genus, that's what he is. my hero! plus i think he's a wizard since i saw him in diagon alley once."
six strengths of kalina,
i. DETERMINED "When it comes to pursuing my dreams and getting what I want, I'll do nearly anything to get it. I am driven and know how to put all my concentration onto what I'm doing so I can accomplish it. My mum told me early on that just because I was a girl didn't mean I couldn't have what I wanted, it just meant I would have to try a little harder. It was one of the few pieces of advice she's given me that I've actually listened to."
ii. LOYAL "Loyalty is something that is extremely important but unfortunately hard to come by these days. Loyalty to one's family and one's friends are perhaps the most important thing to have. I would do anything for my family, including die. Hell, I would probably murder someone if it meant keeping my family safe."
iii. OBSERVANT "I like to think that I notice things that most people don't, and because I'm observant I know a great deal of things. I can sometimes tell when a person is lying to me just from watching their behaviour as they speak and whether or not their words match their actions. I also notice small things like the changes in the weather or when Costello's ears would go red when she was about to give out a detention."
iv. CLEVER "I wouldn't necessarily call myself clever in the sense of being smart, but more or less being a smart ass. I find that I'm good at coming up with clever insults or comebacks when someone pisses me off or annoys the hell out of me."
v. STRONG "With two brothers who would often beat me up, you have to be strong in every sense of the word. It toughened me up a lot and has helped me greatly in life. I know how to stand up for myself and not let people walk all over me because I'm a girl."
vi. INDEPENDENT "I've always been pretty independent, even as a little girl. I liked to do things my own way and on my own, even if one of my brothers wanted to tag along. I never felt the need to surround myself with people all of the time."
five weaknesses of prudence,
i. STUBBORN "I am perhaps one of the most stubborn people on the planet. When I get an idea or an opinion stuck in my head, it is very hard to sway me. I don't like doing things someone else's way and I sure as hell won't always do what people tell me to do. I get it from my mum."
ii. EMOTIONAL "I am a woman, as as such am allowed and almost expected to be emotional. When I'm angry I will yell and swear and scream, and when I'm sad I will cry like a complete wreck. And when I'm happy, well I'll be all smiles. When it's that time of the month, you best be prepared for an even more emotional Kilana."
iii. IMPULSIVE "I was never really good at the whole thinking things through part, so whenever I found myself wanting to do something I would just go ahead and do it. I never thought ahead much about consequences , and I would often get scolded and get into trouble."
iv. OPINIONATED "It goes hand in hand with being stubborn, doesn't it? I have an opinion on everything under the sun, and I will let you know it. It's wise just to avoid asking me what I think because I tend to go on a rant about it for hours at a time."
v. TEMPERAMENTAL "It's a lot like being emotional, except that it's almost entirely consisting of me being unreasonable. I am quick to anger and when you do something to piss me off, be prepared to pull out your wand and repel a curse or two."
four fears of kalina,
i. VAMPIRES "I already told you about my encounter with a vampire in Romania, so it's pretty obvious that I am afraid of them. I'm afraid of being bitten and either killed or turned into one of them."
ii. THE DOCTOR "i mean real life doctors! i have no problem with doctor who, aw, i love that show! wait, oh yeah, doctors. seriously, they're all so creepy and scary and creepy.. i don't know, it sounds weird, doesn't it? fearing the doctor, but it actually makes sense because usually doctors have all those sharp things. they're going to attack you!"
iii. NEVER FINDING LOVE "No one really wants to be alone forever, and as much as I enjoy my solitude neither do I. I want to find that one person to fall in love with and get married and have children. I want the whole package deal that love has in store. I'm afraid of never finding that and ending up an old woman all alone with hundreds of cats."
iv. LOSING HER BROTHERS "I've never had a time in my life where I've never had my brothers around and I certainly am not eager to find out what that's like either. My brothers are essentially my best friends, and without them I would be completely lost. I would rather die than lose one of them."
three wants of kalina,
i. OWN THE MENAGERIE "I have been working at the Menagerie since I was sixteen years old and started during my summer vacation. It's like a second home to me that I love being at with all of the animals. I would love to go from simply working there to owning it. I could ask my dad for the money to buy it, but I'm stubborn and want to do it on my own. Plus I don't think he would actually give me the funds to do it anyway."
ii. PLAY PROFESSIONAL QUIDDITCH "I have always dreamed of playing professional Quidditch ever since I first started playing myself. However I don't see myself leaving the shop in order to establish my Quidditch career. It's more of a dream that would be fun to think about doing rather than actually doing it."
iii. HAVE A FAMILY "I want to have what my parents have: a happy marriage and a big family. I want to get settle down and get married, the white picket fence and a nice house, and a plethora of children and grandchildren running around the yard."
two pets of kalina,
i. PEETA THE OWL "When I was eleven my parents bought me a barn owl because I was officially magical. I named him Peeta after this stray Kneazle that roams around the forest behind my house. He's not the brightest owl I've ever seen, since he sometimes flies into windows and walls. But I still love him!"
ii. SKEETER THE TOAD "Skeeter is my toad that I found in the back of the Menagerie last year. He was sickly and I took him home and nursed him back to health. I tried bringing him back to the shop to sell him but he didn't want to leave me so I still have him. He likes to croak songs when I'm trying to sleep."
one patronus of kalina,
i. PORPOISE "Isn't that the most random patronus animal ever? I've only ever seen a porpoise once in my life and it was the weirdest animal. But there's nothing I can do to change it since I guess it has something to do with my personality. When I try to produce the Patronus charm, I think of the first time I saw a Quidditch match. It was the happiest time of my life, next to winning my first Quidditch match at school of course."
