play-by:
willa holland
hair color:
brown
eye color:
blue-ish
distinguishing features:
Her eyes probably are her most distinguishing feature. Even though she has brown hair, her eyes are a light color somewhere in between blue and green. She does have a tattoo of a butterfly on her ankle that she got when she was seventeen. The tattoo is usually covered by jeans or boots though because her family isn’t exactly aware that she has it.
style:
Alyssa’s style varies from day to day. She wears whatever she’s in the mood to wear. If she doesn’t have anything that suits her mood, she has no trouble going out and buying something new. She loves getting dressed up and is almost constantly buying new clothes. More often than not she just wears jeans and a cute shirt. Around the university there really isn’t much need to wear dresses all the time.

fears:
violence... growing up in her family pretty much made her hate any form of violence

dreams:
Alyssa has always had two dreams. The first is rather obvious. Her father would finally stop drinking and beating up her family. The second is about as impossible as the first, she wants to be a dancer. She has always loved dancing and wants that more than anything in the world.
secrets:
Besides having a sister who isn’t quite as dead as her parents lead the world to believe? Well, she’s learning the dark arts from her father.
personality:
Alyssa is not the type of girl who can study for hours on end to pass a test. Studying is a waste of time. Besides, it really doesn’t matter what grades she gets. Her parents will get her a job once she leaves the university. If she sees an opportunity to have some fun, she will take it without hesitation. She likes pretending that she has no problems. For the last five or so years, she has been at every major party. She drinks and dances until she literally can’t anymore. Any week that she doesn’t break at least three rules is a week wasted. She gets caught from time to time but that is all part of the fun. After living with her family, lectures really have lost their ability to scare her. Even when she gets caught, she can almost always talk her way out of trouble. She has never lost touch with that pureblooded side that she was taught. Sure, she can act the sweet, perfect daughter but she also learned how to manipulate just about anyone. She can tell which people are strong and which are weak. It’s almost instinctive for her to know the right words to get her what she wants or even just to cheer someone up. Alyssa is almost never blunt. She considers it a bonus if she can get what she wants without asking. There is no reason why she should hurry to her point, everyone else can wait. She knows her limits though. That part of her is realistic. Some people are not easily controlled. Alyssa can talk her mother into anything, but has never been brave enough to try with her father.
She is terrified of violence, therefore anyone who isn’t violent is a good person in her eyes. She loves people in general based off the idea that no one could possibly be as horrible as her father. Growing up with her father, violence became the thing that haunted her nightmares. She is something of a pacifist, too scared to fight back. Verbally she can be vicious at time but physically she is about as dangerous as a fluffy bunny. Her father also managed to mess up her optimism. He made sure her life didn’t have many choices and she ended up cynical because of it. Any conversation about the future, she stops within seconds of its beginning. She knows that she doesn’t have too many options and she doesn’t want anyone else to be stuck in the same position she is. Whenever she can, she’ll help someone to have another choice, even if it means taking the blame for something herself.
Somewhere along the way, she forgot that not everyone can protect themselves. She is surprised when people don’t automatically know how to escape whatever problem is in their life. She knows how to handle life and ignores any problem that she doesn’t understand. She’s trying to help other people more just because she feels a bit guilty about not being able to help her sister enough. Sure, her brother took good care of her, but sometimes she felt like she was abandoning her sister when she ran and left Blake to take care of the younger girl. Despite everything, she is a little smart. She might not be very bookish but she can learn new things quickly. If she had some form of work ethic, she might even have been a ravenclaw.

history:
Alyssa was the second child of Connie and Kelvin. For a brief period of time, she was the center of attention. Then came her sister. Alyssa’s life pretty much went downhill from there. Her sister was all that everyone ever cared about. Her parents were terrified that the little girl wouldn’t have any magic and come time for her to go to hogwarts, it was confirmed, her sister was a squib. No one seemed to care that Alyssa had left for hogwarts already. All she had gotten was a speech on pureblood pride because she had dared to get sorted into hufflepuff. After a little while, things got even worse. Her father, Kelvin, was not too pleased with having a squib in the family. Beatings began but for some reason Blake decided to protect the little sister. Alyssa is a bit ashamed that she wasn’t brave enough to stand up for her sister. She chose instead to fade into the background and run. There were times when she would run away from the house for days when things got too ridiculous. She helped in the one way she could. Her dad got violent and angry when he drank so she would sneak into the kitchen and dilute the alcohol as much as she could without getting caught. Sometimes she would even pour it all down the drain, and take the lecture.
Alyssa retreated even farther into her life at hogwarts. She avoided her father at all costs, preferring to hide in fear than get hurt. It was her mother that she learned to trust. Her mother may not have protected her sister but she had a good heart and could keep secrets. Hogwarts was the first time that she got a taste of actual freedom from fear, so she of course broke every rule in place. She nearly got expelled about fifteen times, only the power of her parents kept her from getting thrown out of the school. Her parents weren’t too pleased but she always managed to disappear before they got too angry with her. From time to time, there would be events and parties with other pureblood families. It became second nature to her to smile and act like a proper pureblood. In reality, she didn’t care about any of the blood status stuff, if anything she hated purebloods. From what she saw, they were all big headed, pompous and annoying.
It was her last year at hogwarts when things started to get complicated for her. Blake and her sister left the house, moving to live far away from the rest of the family. Needless to say, that looked a little bad on the family reputation. Her father decided that the reputation would be in shambles if he didn’t step in and do something, so he began to teach Alyssa dark magic. At first, Ashe was horrified. She took each lesson just to avoid punishment. She could learn each new spell in a day or two and suddenly she was just that little bit more powerful. Alyssa began to actually like learning the dark magic, not fully understanding exactly how wanting to be powerful was wrong. It wasn’t like dark magic was really bad; it was all in how she used it. When she graduated from hogwarts, she immediately turned to the university. It was what her father wanted and she wouldn’t dare disobey. She knows exactly where her life is headed from there. Her father is going to push her through the university, come up with some arranged marriage for her, and get her a job at the ministry. As much as she hates it, she is too scared to try and change any of it. When she was little she dreamed of running off and becoming a dancer, now she knows that isn’t an option.

rp example:
Mia was not perfect by any means. She had the attention span of a fly, assumed everyone was joking, and had a tendency to burst into tears when she got frustrated. Beyond all that was potions. She hated potions. And not just that little “potions is hard” hatred, more of a “oh god, I’m going to end up killing someone with this one day.” She was possibly the worst potions student to ever live. She was clumsy enough that what she didn’t mess up already got dropped, flung and crushed. Mia had killed three cauldrons just this past month. It was becoming a problem. She even earned a bit of a reputation for it, Professor Lafrance had nearly wept when he realized that he had Mia Fawcett in his class. She had originally decided to beg the professor for some extra help in his class. That, of course, was doomed to failure. Professor Lafrance was no idiot and he had a sense of self-preservation. Hence why she was about to end up with a ravenclaw boy to tutor her. It was a bit worrying though. At least the professor was a wizard who knew what he was doing, this boy might not be prepared to put out a fire or stop dangerous fumes. It sounded a bit paranoid, but it was kind of realistic. She knew full well that this was probably the most hazardous subject for her.
The boy was Liam Fitzgerald. She didn’t know him, but she had heard some rumors about him. He was one of those crazy smart ravenclaws who was a year older than her. He was apparently a fun person, but he had no qualms about announcing mistakes loudly. That would have been sooo annoying under any other circumstances but it would be a good thing. Hopefully he would be able to notice when she messed up before she caused a major catastrophe. She didn’t have high hopes though. She might be in her sixth year but a first year was probably more talented at potions than her. It was ridiculous. All she had to do was follow a set of directions but noooo… she always ended up blowing something up. She was supposed to be making the some kind of shrinking potion today. When the assignment was given she had at first tried to look up information but found that it only made her more nervous than usual. What if she accidently dissolved the school or something? It was becoming a bit scary for her to do potions. She never could quite predict when she was going to mess something up. Come to think of it, she had been the most surprised in her fourth year when she had actually done the potion correctly. The first time. She had fainted from the shock of it.
It wasn’t like she was being paranoid. She had destroyed about two hundred cauldrons and countless other supplies. She caused the entire school to evacuate on more than one occasion. She was pretty sure she only had passed the OWL because she had looked so upset at the end of it. She began to wander down to the dungeons, dreading the hour ahead. What if she killed her tutor? How would she explain that? It wasn’t like she was just bad, she was the plague of the potions world. Come to think of it, she did create a plague in her second year. She reached the bottom of the stairs and took a deep breath. This couldn’t be as bad as she was expecting it to be, everything would be fine. She pushed the door open to see a rather bored looking Liam. She smiled uncertainly, wishing she was anywhere but here. Why had she asked to do more potions? ”Hi,” she said, holding out her hand. ”I’m Mia, you must be Liam.” She eyed him carefully before deciding that he looked smart, hopefully smart enough to help her.
